Artist Statement
I create abstract oil and acrylic paintings and illustrative works that are inspired by play, color, and inquisition. My work uses my deeply vested interests in human-ness, empathy, and intuitively exploring the world around me to communicate hope, joy, and truth. These connections manifest themselves into my work physically through gesture, expressive line, color, and whimsy to touch on intimate emotions that are often difficult to put into words. Early interests in spirituality and connection allow me to explore emotive qualities in my work, and to share that along with others through visual experiences and conversation. The abstraction in the works allow onlookers to feel and reflect, with each individual taking away their own response while synchronously sharing the greater phenomena of viewing the same thing in many unique ways. My process involves research, conversation, and introspection, followed by creating gestural mind maps that evolve into their own subsequent and respective forms. Each added work speaks to diving deeper within my own inquisitions and curiosity, so each work becomes a vessel for learning as well.
